Surgical Skills Training Lab

The establishment of a dedicated surgical skills training laboratory has been the goal of Dr. Terence McIff since the space became available in 2017. Over 1000 square feet of space has been allocated adjacent to the main orthopedic laboratory in Wahl West. Another 1000 square feet of space has been set aside for wet lab improvements and expansion. The surgical skills lab includes a large state of the art Procedure Room, and a smaller simulator and computer based learning center. Renovations were completed in July, 2020. The lab has a complete air exchange system, allowing it to be used for cadaver workshops as well as sawbones workshops and other simulated exercises.

In the near future, we hope to invest in an arthroscopy simulator and other computer based trainers, as well as have a full range of instrumentation and implants available to residents and medical students. This will provide them with the opportunity to develop their skills both individually, during off hours, and in groups during more formal workshops.

Medical device companies are welcome to contact the Orthopedic Research and Education Center to schedule a time to come and take a look at the new space and schedule a workshop to introduce and train on fresh cadaveric specimens.
