Why I chose KU
I chose KU because I was a medical student here, and had the opportunity to work with the department starting early on in medical school and saw how good the camaraderie was, and how happy the residents seemed. I saw that there were residents matching into fellowships of all different kinds which speaks to the support and encouragement of staff, as well as occasional residents going directly into general orthopedics which speaks to the fact that we receive enough quality training during residency to not need a fellowship to gain further operative experience. Finally, my now wife and I couples matched and we both really like living in Kansas City, and valued staying close to family.
Kansas City Favorites
Some of my favorite things in Kansas City are going to local breweries with my wife and dog, hiking/biking trails at Shawnee mission park, grabbing some barbeque and watching any number of KC sports teams

Why I chose KU
On my interview with KU it was clear that the residents were very close and had a good relationship with the attendings. Additionally, we have a history of strong fellowship match in a variety of different subspecialties, and have recently had graduates go into general orthopedics after residency which indicated the strength of the operative experience and education we receive. I also was attracted to squad events and social support the residents have with each other!

Why I chose KU
I chose KU for two primary reasons. First, a mentor who graduated from the program explained that the operative experience was notch, and it was true. We are consistently in the OR learning how to operate and getting involved in cases as a PGY-1. Second, it was clear that residents got a long well and supported one another. This has also been true. One of my favorite parts of the residency are the days after education conference when we're all in the resident room sharing exciting and fun stories from our experiences across the program!

Why I chose KU
During my home rotations, I got along so well with the residents and staff and was so impressed at their knowledge and skillsets and knew if I trained here I’d have all the skills I could need. Since I grew up in Kansas City and both my wife's and my family still live in Kansas City, I knew we also wanted to eventually end up here long-term, so I was so ecstatic to match here for residency, get excellent training, stay near my family, and get to live in the best city ever (no bias)!
