Explore affiliate institutions where orthopedic surgery residents train at the KU School of Medicine.
In addition to the University of Kansas Medical Center, our residents also have the opportunity to spend time at the campuses of our primary clinical partner, The University of Kansas Health System. KU MedWest is located in western Johnson County approximately 15 minutes from the main campus location. Residents see outpatients in the facility and operate in the surgical center. The new Indian Creek facility is located in south Johnson County and is about a 10-minute drive from KU Medical Center. This facility also houses an outpatient clinic and surgery center. Residents also train at the outpatient clinic facility at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs football team.
Children’s Mercy Hospital
Children's Mercy Hospital is a free-standing full-service tertiary care hospital in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to the care of pediatric patients in the region. Residents spend three months in both their PGY-2 and PGY-3 years at Children’s Mercy Hospital. They receive most of their pediatric experience at this location.
Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Kansas City
Located in east Kansas City, Missouri, this VA facility serves as a referral center for eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Drs. Kim Templeton and Joshua Nelson see patients at the VA along with two VA orthopedic surgery staff physicians. Residents spend three months each in the PGY-2, -4, and -5 years.
