Retina Research Fellowship

The overall goal of this newly created retina research fellowship position is to help develop research and teaching approaches necessary to advance a future academic career.  In addition, fellows will be provided exposure to the latest medical and surgical retina diagnostics and treatments.

During this one- to three-month-program, we combine clinical and translational research aiming to answer important clinical questions with the observation of surgery in the OR and the evaluation of patients in the clinic. In addition, fellows are encouraged to engage in available educational activities (retina course lectures, retina FA rounds, ophthalmology grand rounds). US and international candidates are welcome to apply.

Requirements

  1. Successful ophthalmology residency completion
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Have adequate funding required for the duration of their training

About our Department

Located off the main hospital campus at 7400 State Line Road, Prairie Village, KS, we have the benefits of a stand-alone ophthalmology, optometry and optical care center with convenient parking and easy accessibility, plus all the resources of KUMC and the KU Hospital near-by. Our main clinic is 17,000 square feet and includes 24 exam lanes, a minor operating room, electrophysiology and testing suites,optical shop and faculty, resident and administrative offices.

In April 2014, we opened the KU Eye Surgery & Laser Center, LLC, now known as the University of Kansas Hospital - Specialty Surgery, directly above the State Line clinic. The department also operates KU Eye Miller Clinic (two exam lanes and an optical shop) on the main campus, offering easy on-site ophthalmic, optometric and optical care for medical center employees and patients.
