Application and Interview Information

Applying

Registration with SF Match, which is sponsored by the Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology (AUPO) and supported by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is the first step in applying for an ophthalmology residency program.

We offer a Joint Internship with our Department of Internal Medicine. You will be required to register through ERAS for the internship, but you will not need to interview separately with Internal Medicine, if you match with us in ophthalmology.

Deadlines

Ophthalmology Match Day is February 4, 2025, so the decision to pursue this career path must be made earlier than most specialties. The deadline to submit your application is September 8th, but please check the SF Match website for the most updated details. Candidates are encouraged to complete and submit their applications by the end of August in their fourth year of medical school.

Interview dates will be posted on the SF Match and scheduling will be available through the SF Match's Interview Scheduler.

Interviews: All ophthalmology interviews are virtual.

During our interview sessions, you will be greeted by our residents, who will give a presentation on the following:

  • Faculty
  • Residents
  • Specific information for each PGY rotation, call schedule and consult service
  • Lectures & Conferences, including local, regional and national ophthalmology meetings
  • Benefits
  • University of Kansas Hospital Specialty Surgery and the University of Kansas Hospital

You will interview with a broad representation of our faculty and also have plenty of time to chat with the residents and ask questions.
