Dr. Alvarado, M.D., is an assistant professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center
Dr. Anthony M. Alvarado, M.D., is an assistant professor of Neurosurgery who has joined the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is also a neurosurgeon at The University of Kansas Health System and is board-eligible by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Alvarado specializes in spinal oncology (including spinal column and spinal cord tumors), minimally invasive spine surgery and complex spinal reconstruction surgery. He treats both primary and metastatic spinal tumors.
As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Alvarado is part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, interventional radiologist, and physical medicine physicians who design highly individualized treatment plans based on the tumor type, and the patients’ needs and health goals. He finds working with patients who have oncologic diseases rewarding as he can help restore function and quality of life.
Dr. Alvarado’s research interests include clinical outcomes for spinal surgery, image-guided and robotic spinal surgery, and evidence-based guideline developments. He has authored more than 50 articles, book chapters and abstracts.
He earned his M.D. at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
In addition, he completed a fellowship focusing on minimally invasive and complex spine surgery under the guidance of internationally renowned faculty and pioneers in the field of spine surgery at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Alvarado is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and AO Spine North America.
