The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center added Justin T. Davis, M.D., and Brian D. Milligan, M.D., as assistant professors.

A specialist in spine surgery, Davis most recently was a neurosurgeon at Regional Health in Rapid City, South Dakota, and Overland Park Surgical Specialists and Sports Medicine in Overland Park, Kansas.

He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2007 and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in 2013. He also earned a bachelor's degree in organismal biology from the University of Kansas.

Davis is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery. In addition to serving as secretary of the American Association of Rocky Mountain Neurosurgical Society, his other professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Milligan's areas of expertise include brain and pituitary tumors, skull base and cerebrovascular surgery, and Chiari malformation and trigeminal neuralgia.

He joins KU Medical Center from Saint Luke's Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was a staff neurosurgeon. He also formerly was a clinical assistant professor of surgery and orthopedics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After earning his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in neurological surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He also finished a fellowship in skull base and cerebrovascular surgery at Oregon Health and Sciences University.

Milligan's interests include brain tumor research and resident education.
