Margaret Minea elected to leadership role for national association

Minea will chair Meeting Committee of Association of Resident Administrators in Neurological Surgery

Margaret Minea, residency coordinator and business manager for the Department of Neurosurgery in the School of Medicine at the KU Medical Center, was elected meeting chair for the Association of Resident Administrators in Neurological Surgery (ARANS). She will serve a two-year term.

ARANS is the national professional organization of administrators involved in graduate medical education in neurosurgical programs. Sponsored by the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS), ARANS was initially established by two coordinators as an organization to provide support, mentorship and guidance to residency training administrators at all career levels.

"I feel this new role is a way for me to pay it forward after all I’ve learned from the organization. It’s a great way to help take care of people and share information. We are fortunate to have a strong national group like ARANS as not all subspecialties do.”

“I’m not sure where I would have been without this group,” said Minea. “New people in the position of residency coordinator or administrators are often surprised with the number of details involved when they begin working in this role.”

Training is specialized for first, second- and third-year members. “We learn many important things we can implement right away during our meetings. There are so many moving parts to our jobs. It’s nice if we can learn from others and not have to reinvent the wheel.”

She is an active leader with the organization having spearheaded the planning and implementation for the 2024 annual conference.

“I feel this new role is a way for me to pay it forward after all I’ve learned from the organization,” said Minea. “It’s a great way to help take care of people and share information. We are fortunate to have a strong national group like ARANS as not all subspecialties do.”
