Engaging Music for Pulmonary Obstruction With Expiratory Restoration (EMPOWER)
Could singing help your breathing? We are actively recruiting participants for our singing and lung health study, EMPOWER. Participants will:
- receive one month of individual singing lessons three times per week on Zoom
- have two breathing tests and two CT images of their lungs at the beginning and end of the study
- have interactive sessions tailored to their vocal range and abilities
The EMPOWER study is open to participants over 18 years old who have COPD. Volunteers receive up to $150 for their participation.

Music Use to Benefit People Living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
How is music used to benefit health? Staff involved in activities in a care community are invited to join a pilot study focused on Alzheimer’s disease and music. Participants will:
- help improve the use of music for better health,
- completed one confidential interview and one observation and
- have the opportunity to share their perspective.

Improving Functional MRI Analysis via Integrated One-Step Tensor-variate Methodology
The goal of this project is to create and validate a novel statistical method for analyzing task-based fMRI data. We will use an integrated holistic data analysis strategy rather than the two-stage model typically used in fMRI studies, to improve estimation and power, allowing precise discovery even from studies with small sample sizes. This is a collaboration between Dr. Lepping at KU Medical Center and Dr. Ranjan Maitra in the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University.
