Grand Rounds Conference features Brian M. Kongs, D.O. and Abid Qureshi, M.D.
Presentations will focus on encephalitis and large-core ischemic stroke
The Neurology/Neurosurgery Grand Rounds Conference May 10, 2024, begins at 7 a.m. with a case presentation by Brian M. Kongs, D.O. The case is a clinical and radiologic review of HIV encephalitis and the evaluation and management of viral encephalitides.
Kongs is a first-year resident at KU Medical Center and completed his medical degree and a Master of Science degree in bioethics at Kansas City University. His interests include neurology, neurocognitive and neurodegenerative medicine.
The second presentation will focus on large-core ischemic stroke by Abid Qureshi, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and a neocritical care fellow. The discussion will examine large-vessel, acute ischemic stroke and the current controversies related to which patients to take to thrombectomy (EVT). This presentation is from 8 to 9 a.m.
Qureshi graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center followed by a residency in neurology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed cognitive neurology and neuroscience fellowships at Harvard University and Brigham and Women's Hospital as well as a vascular neurology fellowship at Columbia University.
Both presentations will take place at the Clendening Auditorium in Robinson at the KU Medical Center, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas.
