Jerome (Pete) Engel, M.D., Ph.D., was featured speaker at 15th annual Gertrude and Dewey Ziegler Professorship Lecture

The 15th annual Gertrude and Dewey Ziegler Professorship Lecture was presented by the Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center on May 24. The featured speaker was Jerome (Pete) Engel, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Seizure Disorder Center at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is the Jonathan Sinay distinguished professor of neurology, neurobiology, psychiatry and biobehavioral science and a member of the Brain Research Institute.
The annual Ziegler lectureship honors Dewey Ziegler, M.D., who led the section of neurology at KU Medical Center from 1966 until 1974, when it became the Department of Neurology. Ziegler went on to serve as chair of the department until 1985. During his tenure, he established the neurology residency program. He served a term as president of the American Academy of Neurology. Becoming a professor emeritus in 1990, he remained on the faculty until his death in 2012 at age 92.
