2025 neurology residents and fellows honored at annual graduation celebration

The celebration, held at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, also recognized outstanding research and faculty mentorship.

The University of Kansas Department of Neurology celebrated this year’s cohort of residents and fellows at an annual graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 14.  

Department faculty and staff, in addition to family and friends of graduates, gathered at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in downtown Kansas City for this year’s celebration. The evening began with a cocktail hour, followed by a formal awards ceremony and concluded with dinner. 

This year’s graduates include:  

Residents

  • Samuel Broll, M.D. 
  • Meghna Hegde, M.D. 
  • Brian Herman, D.O., MBA 
  • Andrew Jarzen, M.D. 
  • Sivani Lingam, MBBS

Fellows  

  • Syed Ahmed, M.D., neuromuscular medicine 
  • Mustafa Al-Kharazan, M.D., neuromuscular medicine 
  • Natalie Bartnik, D.O., clinical neurophysiology  
  • Sean Beattie, D.O., epilepsy 
  • Bryce Hoelscher, M.D., clinical neurophysiology 
  • Syed Hussain, M.D., vascular neurology 
  • Daniel Mafla Delgado, M.D., multiple sclerosis 

In addition to the formal recognition of residents and fellows, the department also presented the following awards:

Faculty Awards  

Residents selected and presented the following awards to KU Neurology faculty. 

Amanda Thuringer, D.O., received the inaugural Fred Sachen Award for Best Clinical Instructor. 

Laith Maali, M.D., received the Best Educator Award 

Colleen Lechtenberg, M.D., received the Beacon of Support Award.
