What is the All of Us Research Program?
All of Us Research Programs logo, The Future of Health Begins with YouAll of Us is an exciting program from the National Institutes of Health. The goal of the program is to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy. If you decide to join All of Us, you will be contributing to an effort to improve the health of generations to come.

Those who join can share information about their health over time. Researchers are studying this data. What they learn could improve health for generations to come.

Enrollment is open to all eligible adults who live in the United States. Children can also participate by enrolling at some locations, including the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Taking part is free and won’t cost you anything more than a little of your time.

What is KU Medical Center’s role?
KU Medical Center is proud to lead All of Us in the Midwest. As the coordinating site for the All of Us Research Program – Heartland Consortium, we are partnering locally with The University of Kansas Health System. We know our goals are ambitious, but we believe that when we come together, we can do incredible things, which is why we hope you will join in our efforts.

Become a valued partner in research

People join for many reasons. Some people join because they can:

  • Help improve the health of their families, communities, and future generations.
  • Help researchers find better and tailored ways for people to stay healthy.
  • Help researchers create better tests and treatments.
  • Learn more about their health.

The longer a person stays involved with All of Us, the more information they can share about their health and well-being. This sharing can help speed up health research and medical breakthroughs. They may also learn more about themselves and their health.

To get started, you will need to enroll first:

After you consent to join All of Us, you can also enroll your child aged four years and younger:

  • Create an account for your child within your All of Us Your child’s account will be linked to your account.
  • Give permission for your child to become an All of Us

As participants, you and your child will be able to choose how much you would like to participate. You can decide to:

  • Share your electronic health records.
  • Answer health surveys.
  • Come in for an in-person visit to provide physical measurements (such as height and weight) and give a blood or saliva and urine sample.*
  • As an adult participant, you also may be able to mail a saliva sample from home.

*As an adult participant, you will receive $25 after completing an in-person visit to provide your samples and physical measurements. You also will receive $25 at the end of your child’s in-person visit when they provide their samples and physical measurements. Your child will receive a small thank you gift. Participants who do not complete an in-person visit will not receive $25.

All of Us protects survey responses the same way we protect other information you share with us. Your answers will be added to the Data Browser in the All of Us Research Hub. Researchers can use the data for many different studies. Before we add your answers, All of Us removes any information that can identify you. This means that your name, date of birth, address, and other identifying information are not available to researchers.

The All of Us Research Program follows strict privacy and security protocols and processes to help keep participant data safe. Your privacy is very important and we will take great care to protect it if you join. To learn more about how All of Us protects participant data and privacy, visit our website: https://allofus.nih.gov/protecting-data-and-privacy.

Be An All of Us Researcher

The All of Us Research Program is working to enroll one million or more people. By sharing their health information with us, All of Us participants are helping us build one of the largest health resources of its kind.

The program offers tiered access to the data. Researchers’ institutions must first have agreements in place with All of Us before they can register to use the Researcher Workbench’s Registered and Controlled Tiers. The Public Tier dataset is available at DataBrowser.ResearchAllofUs.org. Use the Data Browser to explore aggregate-level data before starting your research in the Researcher Workbench.

Researchers can access All of Us participant data. Those researchers may work for universities, medical centers, or nonprofits. Everyone who uses All of Us data for research has to follow the same rules. They must agree to protect the privacy of participants. We require researchers to describe their research projects and how they will use the data. We share descriptions of all research underway.

Register for access at ResearchAllofUs.org.
