Diverse ICU Experience
- 58-bed ICU with broad range of pathology and acuity
- Subspecialty medical ICU exposure – including transplant ICU and bone marrow transplant ICU
- Veterans Affairs Hospital medical ICU exposure
- Access to latest critical care techniques and equipment, including top ultrasound machines, utilization of bio-reactance in fluid management, video laryngoscopy and portable bronchoscopy
Large Procedural Experience
- Very high procedural volume:
- Endobronchial Ultrasound
- General Bronchoscopy with Biopsy
- Thoracentesis
- Chest Tube Placement
- Simulation exposure to these procedures with an annual trip to Mayo Clinic
- Significant exposure to interventional pulmonology, including:
- Rigid Bronchoscopy
- Navigational Bronchoscopy
- Cryobiopsy
- Argon Plasma Coagulation Therapy
- Tumor Debulking and/or Stenting
- PleurX Catheter Placement
- Without Interventional Pulmonology fellowship, fellows get a broad range of hands-on exposure to these advanced procedures
Robust Simulation Program
Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning
- Central Line Placement
- Airway Task and Team Training
Multi-disciplinary simulation program with nurses, respiratory therapists, faculty to learn techniques for basic and advanced airway placement
- Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound
With EBUS simulator at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital
- Thoracentesis
Strong Ambulatory Clinic Experience
- Fellows Clinic Wednesday afternoons – staffed by two faculty
- Fellows provided their own patient panel to follow and care for autonomously with guided supervision
- Exposure to sub-specialty clinics:
- Interstitial Lung Disease
- Pulmonary Hypertension
- Occupational Lung Disease, Transplant
- Adult Cystic Fibrosis
