The Energy Balance Laboratory has a variety of ongoing research projects. For more information regarding any research project, please contact the project coordinator listed on each study page.
Weight Management for Adolescents with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
The Weight Management for Adolescents with IDD study is designed to investigate the impact of two delivery systems (face-to-face and technology) and two diets (enhanced Stop Light Diet and conventional diet) on weight loss and maintenance in adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Midwest Diet and Exercise Trial (M-DEx)
The Midwest Diet and Exercise Trial (M-DEx) is designed to investigate 3 different methods of delivering a weight management program in a primary care clinic.
Weight Management for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
We are looking for adults (ages 18+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are not currently participating in a regular exercise program and are interested in starting a weight loss and physical activity program.
PAAC 3 is designed to compare two methods of delivering short (~10 min) physical activity breaks that will occur during the regular school day for 3 years.
Individual and Family-based Approaches to Increase Physical Activity in Adolescents with IDD
We are looking for adolescents (ages 10-21) with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are not currently participating in a regular exercise program and are interested in starting a physical activity program.
Weight Management for Adults with Mobility Related Disabilities (MIGHTY)
We are looking for adults (ages 18+) with mobility related disabilities who are not currently participating in a regular exercise program and are interested in starting a weight loss and physical activity program.
This 12-month study is being conducted to determine if group exercise sessions delivered remotely can increase the amount of physical activity adults with Down syndrome get each week, and to determine if increased physical activity can improve cognitive function or delay the onset of dementia.
M2G is a study examining the best ways to promote exercise in adults with dementia and their caregivers: a video group or a personal coach group.
