Our adult track fellows have the opportunity to practice longitudinal care through our unique outpatient continuity experiences. Fellows participate in a continuity clinic experience that will include 32 half days of clinic throughout the year.

Each fellow will have their own patient panel in a continuity clinic. This continuity clinic will include patients they will follow throughout the year.

Palliative Care Fellows will work on gathering skills in navigating patient care in the outpatient setting. Skills include pain management, psychosocial support, opioid management, non-pain symptom management, caregiver support, legacy creation, advance care planning, and goals of care. Fellows will be paired with an attending and nurse to support them in gaining these essential skills. Additional support in our clinic is provided from social work services in our outpatient clinic.  

Fellow’s clinic is every Thursday afternoon after didactics and fellows attend depending on their rotation. During this time, fellows care for patients in an outpatient palliative care clinic at one of The University of Kansas Cancer Centers at Westwood or Overland Park Clinic. In addition, additional opportunities are available with our Neurology Clinic, Pulmonary, Heart Failure, and AYA (adult young adult) clinics. Further outpatient experience opportunities are available during a fellows VA rotation.
