Preparing for Your Future
We are dedicated to ensuring that our internal medicine residency program at the Olathe Campus offers exceptional training and preparation for our residents.
Resident In-Training Examination and ABIM Certifying Examination Preparation Plan
Ensuring that our residents are prepared for the American Board of Internal Medicine Certifying Examination (ABIM-CE) upon completion of residency is a top priority. We have developed a detailed longitudinal board preparation plan that begins in internship. It is our belief this longitudinal approach supports the needs of all of our learners — despite differences in learning styles/testing approaches.
- ACP's Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program
- This is a long-standing preferred resource for board preparation for Internal Medicine physicians. Our program provides a full text and digital copy to each resident in intern year.
- Semi-annual meetings with program mentors
- ITE performance: Discuss literature-based correlation with ABIM performance and targeted follow-up on ITE question content missed
- Performance expectations for ITE (>50 percentile rank) and ABIM board exam
- Review board preparation plan
- Educational Prescription outlined if ITE national percentile rank <30*
- Learning Specialist
- Meetings for targeted board prep planning
- Practice tests
- Additional Resources
- Formal board preparation courses supported with professional days
- Graduate writing specialist available to assist in writing of application items such as personal statements or other elements of fellowship applications
- Career specialist
- Educational counseling support available for assistance with concerns such as test anxiety
Preparing for beyond residency
Our program is committed to providing you the support you need to achieve your career goals whether in the practice of a hospitalist, primary care or a sub-specialty. We have developed comprehensive and longitudinal direction from day one to help you prepare for your career:
- The 3+1 scheduling system allows for a variety of subspecialty exposure early in one’s training.
- The educational program will allow individualized educational experience to participate in opportunities relevant to their future practices for pursuit of fellowships, or to further their skill/competency development in the foundational areas.
- A portion of your half day clinics will be dedicated to subspecialty clinics, where residents will participate in the care of medically complex patients requiring more advanced chronic disease evaluation and management.
- The program will match residents with faculty who assist with mentorship in both clinical and scholarly pursuit of subspecialty interest.
- We provide support and resources throughout the application process:
- Schedule flexibility for interviews
- Access to writing center specialists for refinement of CVs and personal statements
- Opportunities for mock interviews with the University Learning Center
