Overview
- He has been the principal investigator or subinvestigator for more than 50 clinical trials. Dr. Kovac has published 108 articles (86 peer-reviewed, 15 non-peer reviewed, 6 book chapters) and 105 abstracts that have been presented at national and international meetings. He has contributed chapters to the textbooks Antiemetic Therapy (ed, J. Donnerer, Karger, 2003) and Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting: A Practical Guide (ed. TJ Gan and AS Habib, Cambridge University Press 2016).
Dr. Kovac is past secretary and council member of the Anesthesia History Association.
In 2003, Dr. Kovac was awarded the Kasumi Arakawa Professorship Award in Anesthesiology.
In 2008, Dr. Kovac received the Wood Library and Museum Rod Calverly Fellowship in the History of Anesthesiology, American Society of Anesthesiology, Park Ridge, IL.
In 2010, Dr. Kovac received the Eugene Pearce Fellowship in the History of Medicine, Clendening Library and Museum, KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
In 2016, Dr. Kovac initiated the “Kovac International Observership Award” to sponsor the international bidirectional exchange of education, research and culture by anesthesiology residents, nurse anesthesia students and medical students observing medical systems and practice in Peru and Ghana.
In February 2020, Dr Kovac was chosen to be a member of the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a three-year term. The Fulbright Specialist Program was established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Dr. Kovac is eligible to be matched with approved projects from over 150 countries and other areas.
