Katharine Murphree, M.D.
Core Faculty
Professional Background
An Alabama native and daughter of a veterinarian, Dr. Murphree grew up witness to the impact of caring for others, inspiration for her later medical career pursuit. She attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama where she participated in the Rural Medicine Program before graduating a Dean’s Medalist with a bachelor’s in science. She then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine for her medical training, before moving to Lawrenceville, Georgia for her family medicine residency at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. During her residency training, she served as chief resident and was awarded the Teaching Excellence award in her final year. After completion of her residency, Dr. Murphree stayed on as Core Faculty at her graduating program. She spent two and half years practicing a hybrid model of inpatient and outpatient medicine while mentoring and supervising resident physicians. She also served as the Simulation Education Coordinator for the family medicine residents and clinical site director for one of the residency offices. In 2021, she transitioned to Pandya Medical Center in rural Dawsonville, Georgia where she worked outpatient for 1 year before her husband accepted a new job in Kansas City, Kansas. She is excited to be resuming her career in graduate medical education with the University of Kansas Family Medicine Residency Program here in Olathe. She is an advocate of knowing and understanding each individual in order to better serve their needs as a patient and resident physician learner.
In her spare time, Dr. Murphree enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and 2 golden retrievers. She enjoys traveling, all water sports, reading, and being outdoors with family.
