Professional Background

Dr. Thomas Imig became a faculty member in Physiology in 1980 and rose through the ranks to become full professor in 1990. He was a very productive member of the faculty for 33 years in research, teaching, and service. He had a distinguished research career with pioneering work on the organization of the auditory system and tinnitus. Midway through his career, Dr. Imig's work was recognized by the NIH with the Jacob Javits Merit Award. This prestigious award provides seven years of continuous funding for, particularly meritorious research projects. Dr. Imig also made major contributions to the medical education program of the School of Medicine, especially the Medical Neuroscience course now called "Brain and Behavior". He became emeritus professor in 2013.
