The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship focuses on academic and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
Overview from the Program Director
The clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center is a two-year, accredited program that will train you for a career in academic and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. The program is ACGME accredited and fulfills requirements for training as indicated in the July 1, 2020 ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Cardiovascular Diseases.
Program Strengths
You will have the opportunity to train under 8 board-certified cardiac electrophysiologists. Your program will include:
- Large academic medical center with 1 training hospital and multiple clinic locations
- A very robust clinical & research program
- Dedicated time in 4 EP labs with high procedure volumes
- >1,000 cardiac ablations (Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia/PVC, SVT, Atrial flutter/Miscellaneous)
- >1,000 devices (ICD, Pacemaker)
- ~100 lead extractions
- ~130 Left atrial appendage closure
- Dedicated time in the ambulatory setting
- Inpatient and outpatient consultative services
- Dedicated research time
- Optional elective rotations including:
- Advanced cardiac imaging (Cardiac MRI and CT)
- Pediatric cardiac electrophysiology at the Children's Mercy Hospital
- Weekly didactic conferences and monthly M&M and journal clubs
- Active research initiatives, including multi-center, industry-sponsor and investigator-initiated
Training ‘Extras'
- Major mapping and ablation systems: CARTO, Precision, Cryoballoon, Rhythm, Ultrasound-guided
- Stereotaxis robotic navigation system
- Access to many investigational devices
- Work with all major device vendors (Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, Biotronik)
- Flexibility to tailor your training to match your clinical and research interests.

How to Apply
Applications are accepted in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) beginning July 1. To be considered for review, your application must be complete in ERAS by August 5. A complete application means the following documents are released to our program: a recent CV, personal statement, at least three letters of recommendation, USMLE transcripts, a photo, and ECFMG certificate (international graduates).
