Professional Background

Sindhu Balusa is from India and completed her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) at Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Pharmacy. She gained valuable clinic experience as a clinical pharmacist intern at the ESI Government Hospital in India, where she was involved in patient counseling, participation in ward rounds, and monitoring adverse drug events through prescription chart reviews for patients with complex medical conditions. In addition, Sindhu served as a research intern at the prestigious CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), India. These combined clinical and research experiences strengthened Sindhu's interest in translational science and solidified her commitment to pursuing a research-focused career that integrates clinical insight with molecular biology. Sindhu then began her graduate training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in the laboratory of Dr. Punita Dhawan, an expert in colon and pancreatic cancer biology, and later transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), where she is currently pursuing her PhD. Sindhu's current research focuses on pancreatic cancer, with an emphasis on understanding key molecular pathways involved in disease progression and developing novel therapeutic compounds to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis. Sindhu aims for her work to contribute to advancing cancer biology knowledge and to support the development of more effective therapies for patients.

Outside of research, during free time Sindhu enjoys cooking, watching movies, and practicing yoga, which helps her maintain balance and focus.
