Mehak Ahuja
Graduate Student - Kalyani Pyaram Lab
Professional Background
Mehak is originally from Agra, India, where early exposure to poster and paper presentation competitions sparked her interest in scientific research. She pursued formal training in biotechnology, completing an undergraduate government-project on nanotechnology‑based agricultural applications that introduced her to experimental design and laboratory research. During Mehak's master’s training at the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (NITDGP), she developed a strong interest in translational biomedical research, particularly drug‑repurposing strategies for aggressive lung cancers. Mehak later worked at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, contributing to mRNA‑based vaccine development. These experiences shaped her interest in immunology‑driven mechanisms of disease and led her to join the Ph.D. program at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Dr. Kalyani Pyaram’s lab.
Outside of lab, Mehak enjoys reading and cooking, and if the city lights allow, star gazing.
