mnjoka@kumc.eduProfessional Background
I am originally from India. I completed my bachelor's in biotechnology from the University of Burdwan, followed by a master's in medical biotechnology from Manipal University and the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Driven by my passion for research, I pursued further studies in the United States, obtaining a second master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of New Haven, Connecticut. My research interests led me to delve into the intricacies of non-HPV cervical cancer, contributing valuable insights to the field. This led me to join a doctoral program in Kansas University Medical Center. Currently I am working in Dr. Jennifer Davis's laboratory, which studies obesity associated with colorectal cancer biology. My current research focuses on how obesity influences tumor biology, particularly Colon cancer metastasis. Colon cancer is third most common cancer worldwide with a high mortality rate especially in young adults and obesity is one of the common risk factors associated with cancer incidences, I believe my research will contribute to our collective knowledge of cancer progression, as well as enhance the prospect of cancer cure for individuals grappling with obesity.
In my free time, I am passionate about staying active through various activities from Pilates, yoga and running . Dance and yoga are particular favorites and give a sense of joy and relaxation. In addition to my active lifestyle, I love to unwind by visiting cat cafes and exploring new ones whenever I get the chance.
