Sympathetic-Vascular Dysfunction in Obesity and Insulin Resistance (Vitamin C study)

PI: Seth W. Holwerda, PhD

We are inviting you to participate in this research study because you may be a pre-diabetic individual.

The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how hypertension develops in adults with impaired glucose control. This study involves a one-time administration of Vitamin C and measurements of its positive influence on the blood vessels. This study is not testing an experimental drug.

The Vitamin C research study is approximately 5 weeks long and involves:

  • 3 visits to our research lab at the KU Clinical Research Center, conveniently located 3.4 miles south of KUMC main hospital
  • Free reserved parking next to the front door of the KU Clinical Research Center
  • Monitoring of your heart rate, blood pressure, vascular health, and blood chemistries (this study does include I.V.s and blood draws)

PI: Seth W. Holwerda, PhD

We are inviting you to participate in this research study because you may be planning to undergo a surgery for a spinal cord stimulator to help chronic pain.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate changes in pain and any potential changes in blood pressure after undergoing implantation of a spinal cord simulator device.

This research ESCAPE study involves

  • 4 visits to our KU Clinical Research Center, conveniently located 3.4 miles south of KUMC. Visits are coordinated to coincide with your normally scheduled visits related to your spinal cord stimulator device at KUMC.
  • Free parking next to the front door of the KU Clinical Research Center, 4350 Shawnee Mission Parkway 3rd floor, Fairway, KS 66205.
