Clinical and basic science research forms the core of any successful academic anesthesiology program.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at KU Medical Center is committed to building upon its excellent talent and infrastructure to pursue research. We are committed to fostering a culture of innovation and creativity that drives outstanding basic and clinical research.

Our vision includes creating opportunities for faculty, residents and medical students to perform quality research to strengthen the foundation to our academic anesthesiology program. At the core of our departmental research is the Anesthesiology Research Committee (ARC). Comprised of research faculty and support staff, ARC provides support in conducting all phases of research including regulatory, data collection, data cleaning, biostatistics, medical writing and publication efforts.

Departmental research has increased dramatically in recent years, and current clinical research projects involve a wide range of areas such as the operating room, acute and chronic pain, burn and neuroscience intensive care, obstetric and gynecology and are specifically targeted towards improving patient outcomes.
