Quote: I chose KU because of its diverse and accomplished faculty core who bring in various insights from their education received across the nation. The program's close-knit and supportive environment is unmatched, creating an atmosphere that enhances learning and professional growth. Additionally, the program's size offers a perfect balance, ensuring a personalized experience and mentorship. Having completed my medical school at KU, I have firsthand experience of the exceptional academic culture that will continue to build on my future career in anesthesia. Plus, the city is unbeatable!

Quote: In medical school I worked with several Anesthesiologists who trained at KU and each of them noted the small program size while still being a large academic center and how it allowed them to reach their personal and professional potential. On my interview day I knew the fit and feel at KU was unlike any other place I had experienced. At KU I knew I could be exposed to and experience anything I would wanted while not getting lost in the numbers. Additionally, living in KC is a blast with numerous sporting events, fun places to eat, and lots to do!

Quote: I was drawn to the KUMC Anesthesiology program for its training, culture and location. In terms of training, I appreciate the emphasis on regional anesthesia, early exposure to subspecialties and global healthcare opportunities. The culture and community of the program is equally important to me, knowing I need to train in a place where I feel welcomed and heard. KU’s culture of respect, positivity and collegiality became immediately evident to me soon after I stepped foot on campus during my away rotation. Finally, KUMC’s location in Kansas City made a huge impact on my decision as it allows my husband and I to live near our closest family and friends. Not to mention that KC is one of the most fun and most affordable cities to live in (and the ability to buy a house right by the hospital was a huge bonus)!

Quote: I chose KU Med because from day one on my away rotation, it felt like they truly cared about my growth and success as a future anesthesiologist. The supportive and collegial environment made the program feel like home to me. The complexity and variety of cases the program offers were a big draw for me. Finally, Kansas City offers a vibrant mix of culture, food, and activities that make it a fantastic and affordable place to live.

Quote: The learning community at University of Kansas is truly unparalleled. From all the nurses, physicians, technicians, and coordinators, I knew immediately that humility and a sense of mutual respect are a core foundation at this hospital system. The anesthesia department is no short from exceptional; my family and friends working in other departments always spoke so highly of the anesthesia attendings and residents. When I came here for my away rotation, I understood exactly what they meant. The culture is created to help residents prepare for the best patient care outcomes, but in a way that felt like a safe and supporting learning environment. I am confident that I will develop some incredible friendships during my time training at this institution.

Quote: I chose the University of Kansas for my residency because of the amazing city life that KU is a part of. You are never more than 15 minutes away from any activity you can imagine! Coming from Oklahoma, I was excited to finally enjoy professional sports like a true fan. For example, I grew up playing and traveling for soccer, occasionally watching the Sporting KC soccer team while in Kansas City; now I can call them my home team! Secondly, I chose KU Anesthesiology because of the family this program has created. I feel like I can rely on my colleagues for whatever and whenever I need. The comradery KU Anesthesia provides is exactly what I need to make my training successful. I am excited to make several life-long friends along the way while I'm here!

Quote: As a KU medical student, I was met with such genuine enthusiasm and welcoming excitement from faculty and residents upon expressing my interest in Anesthesiology. This made a lasting first impression. And in spending more time with mentors in the department, it became very apparent that the program was one of tremendous culture and excellent training. From this point the choice was easy- KU would be the best place to fully prepare me in becoming a highly capable Anesthesiologist and make the experience enjoyable along the way!

Quote: I chose KU because it offers everything you could ever want in a residency and more! KU checks all the boxes in terms of fantastic clinical training and opportunities for career development. However, what made KU stand out to me was the culture. KU truly values their residents and their well-being. You can tell by how happy the residents are! It was clear that I would get great training while enjoying my time during residency at KU. Also, Kansas City is a wonderful place to live. It has all the amenities of an up-and-coming large metropolitan city while still maintaining the lovely midwestern charm.

Quote: I chose KU Anesthesia because I can train within a diverse patient base without losing that midwestern charm. The faculty are incredibly supportive, and I appreciate the genuine niceness of everyone here. As an intern, I feel part of the anesthesia department already, from seniors being willing to invite us to social events to teaching us thoroughly on our anesthesia +1 weeks. The camaraderie from seniors and my fellow colleagues in and outside the hospital is unbeatable. It's a great place to grow as a doctor while enjoying everything a city has to offer!
