Professional Background

Primary Care Physician, Researcher, and Core Faculty for Family Medicine Residency Program at Mayo Clinic, Eau Claire WI. July 2020 - Present

Residency:  Family Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Washington, Seattle, WA. June 2017 - July 2020.

I am a self-proclaimed renaissance man. I was active in student government and helped lead several campus groups: the Lunar Society strives to infuse the humanities into medical education and Food is Medicine strives to improve human and environmental health by promoting consumption of local, whole foods at KU Medical Center. I have published papers on the epigenetics of alcoholism in females and how modernization/Westernization has contributed to an epidemic of depression. I received a Ph.D. in Medical Nutrition Science in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition in the School of Health Professions. My dissertation focused on how to target high-risk women most likely to benefit from high-dose long-chain omega-3 fatty acid supplementation for primary prevention of breast cancer. I am also interested in understanding how foods and dietary patterns affect breast cancer risk.

Mentors:  Susan Carlson, Ph.D., and Carol Fabian, M.D., Dietetics and Nutrition, and Medical Oncology.
