jtrant@kumc.eduProfessional Background
I attended Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas for my undergrad where I was a part of Dr. Irosha Nawarathne's lab for four years completing research in organic synthesis. In her lab, I created an analogue of a tuberculosis drug, rifampin, to better treat multi-drug resistant strains of the bacteria. While still in college, I completed an REU program at Kansas State University in Dr. Kathrin Schrick's lab, working toward creating a model algal system to study plant cell wall mechanics. I graduated summa cum laude from Lyon in 2019 with a B.S. in biology, a B.S. in chemistry, and a B.A. in mathematics.
Currently, I'm exploring the effects of ouabain on the signaling function of Na/K-ATPases in normal kidneys and those afflicted with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD).
In my free time, I like to garden, play games, and hang out with my 3 dogs in various places around the city.
