Professional Background

I am from Johnston, Iowa and received a B.Sc. in Biology and a minor in French from Creighton University. While at Creighton, I was a member of the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program, so was given the opportunity to participate in a summer research project at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after my Sophomore year. There, I worked as a part of Dr. Punita Dhawan's laboratory to investigate the association between claudin-1, EphA2, and src, and whether this association promotes colon cancer malignancy. During my Junior and Senior year at Creighton, I worked in the lab of Dr. James Fletcher and researched the rearrangement and antimicrobial properties of ether-containing 1,3,4-Trisubstituted-1,2,3-triazolium salts.

I have decided to pursue a dual MD-PhD degree because of the unique opportunities that are afforded to a physician-scientist. It is my hope that by pursuing an MD-PhD, I will be able to provide better patient care, as well as to become an advocate for research, for medicine, and for patients. In my free time, I like walking my dog, Maggie, and attempting to keep my houseplants alive.
