ckrider2@kumc.eduProfessional Background
While I was born in California, I lived in many states growing up, including (most recently) Florida, where I attended the University of Central Florida and graduated with a B.S. in Molecular Microbiology. During my high school years, I conducted research at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville as a part of the SPARK program, working first with drug-resistant non-small cell lung cancer and later mesenchymal stem cells. In college, my research interest shifted towards microbiology and protein biochemistry. I first worked with Dr. Charissa deBekker, studying how the ‘zombie’ fungus ophiocordyceps camponoti-floridani manipulates host behaviors. Later, I joined the lab of Dr. Ken Teter and began investigating the endomembrane trafficking of cholera toxin and cellular intoxication.
Outside of the lab, I am a hobby entomologist (a bug enthusiast) and enjoy gardening.
