aratri@kumc.eduProfessional Background
I was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and immigrated to the KC Metro area when I was 12. I spent the bulk of my formative years here before attending Vanderbilt University, where I majored in public health. After graduation, I worked in Dr. Lane Christenson’s lab at KUMC studying ovarian biology in the context of transgender health and aging while volunteering as a sexual health counselor at the KC CARE Health Center. Being with patients as they experienced the disorders we were investigating in a lab led me to pursue the combined physician-scientist path.
My current research interests include protein binding/interaction, structural biochemistry, and the nervous system in all its glory. I’m excited to explore them over my time in the program.
When I’m not cooped up in my office studying, I can be found tending to my plants, cooking, and going on adventures with my two dogs and my lovely husband, Chris.
