pkueck@kumc.eduProfessional Background
I was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University at Buffalo, SUNY. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with Drs. Zachary Schlader and Blair Johnson at the Center for Research and Education in Special Environments (CRESE), where I investigated the effects of high-fructose corn syrup on kidney and cerebral blood flow. This experience solidified my passion for research, particularly in human physiology.
After graduation, I joined Dr. Jill Morris’s lab at the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Our work was two-fold: (1) investigate how energy metabolism can be modified (e.g. exercise and lactate infusion) to prevent and possibly treat Alzheimer’s disease, and (2) the characterization of plasma-based biomarkers using ultrasensitive technology in hopes to one day reduce both patient burden of invasive procedures and diagnostic costs.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy grabbing coffee with my wife, Mikayla, and taking our dogs, Pac and Lilly, to the dog park.
