I am originally from, Sylvania, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Iowa. I graduated in May 2006 with a BS in Biology and minors in Political Science and Religious Studies. As an undergraduate, I had wonderful opportunities to conduct research in multiple labs. I worked in the lab of Dr. Michael Henry investigating the role snail, a transcription factor, has in prostate cancer metastases. I fused snail with a tamoxifen-inducible estrogen receptor to allow for conditional expression. I also investigated the expression of Regulator of G-protein Signaling 3 in zebrafish in the laboratory of Dr. Diane Slusarski.

After moving to Kansas City, I spent the month of July doing a rotation in Dr. John Stanford's laboratory at KUMC researching Parkinson's disease. I studied the effects of a neuroprotective drug on lesioned rats' motor function. My future research interests are investing the mechanisms that produce Alzheimer's disease and potentially finding new treatments for sufferers.
