I finished high school in Derby, KS, class of 2000. After high school I studied Neuroscience with a Music Minor at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. My undergraduate research experiences including behavioral studies in rat models using various addiction paradigms. I was pleased to return to Kansas to continue my education at KUMC as part of the MD-PhD Program. I joined the lab of Dr. Ting Xie to pursue my interest in the visual sciences. While in his lab, we used mouse genetics to study anterior eye development including the ciliary body. We discovered a novel phenotype centered around the Notch2 receptor and explored how it affected ciliary body development and interacted with other signaling cascades. This project included collaborating with Dr. Richard Libby from the University of Rochester's Flaum Eye Institute. After completing medical school, my family and I moved to Rochester, NY, where I did my residency in ophthalmology at the Flaum Eye Institute and continued my work with Dr. Libby. I am currently in private practice in western North Carolina where I love being a physician and helping patients of all ages see better.
