I am originally from rural Iowa and was raised on a small farm. I attended Iowa State University and studied Agricultural Biochemistry, but shifted my focus to biomedical research after a summer rotation at the Mayo Clinic. I matriculated into the MD/PhD program in 2007 and completed my PhD in Dr. Doug Wright's laboratory. I completed the MD/PhD program in 2015 and matched into Orthopedic Surgery at KUMC. I am currently a chief resident in Orthopedic Surgery and will be completing a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Washington University in St. Louis next year. I have continued research throughout residency including multiple clinical and basic science projects, primarily focusing on post-traumatic arthritis. I will continue this line of research with my current mentor Dr. Jinxi Wang and plan to incorporate growth plate injury models as well. I am married with 2 children, 11 and 5 year old girls. My wife is a pediatric primary care nurse practitioner and we hope to practice in the Kansas City area after completion of my training.
