The purpose of the M.D.-Ph.D. Physician Scientist Training Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center is to prepare highly qualified and motivated post-baccalaureate students for careers as physician scientists in academic medicine and biomedical research. The program is conducted under the auspices of the dean of graduate studies and research and the executive dean of the school of medicine, with assistance from their M.D.-Ph.D. advisory committee. On average, students spend about 7-8 years in the program, the variable period usually depends on the time needed to complete their research and dissertation.
The University of Kansas School of Medicine and the M.D.-Ph.D. Physician Scientist Training Program welcome diversity in all its forms in order to create an inclusive and vibrant student body. We welcome applicants from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic populations or socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, individuals from the LGBTQ population and individuals with disabilities. Matriculating students should be able to meet the M.D.-Ph.D. Physician Scientist Training Program technical standards with or without accommodations.
Students are encouraged to see the resources provided by our Office of Academic Accommodations and to contact them for additional information. For information on how to make accommodation requests, please visit the Disability Qualifications for Academic Accommodations website.
