We just welcomed the 211 members of the Class of 2023, with 175 of those students attending class at our Kansas City campus, 28 in Wichita and 8 in Salina. We are proud that 87% of our incoming class are Kansas residents, and nearly 20% of our class come from rural areas of our state.

We are also thrilled that this year brings new leadership to the KU School of Medicine. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the executive dean of the School of Medicine for the past 5 ½ years, but it was imperative that I concentrate on my duties as executive vice chancellor. So I am happy that Akinlolu Ojo began his tenure in August as the new executive dean. Dr. Ojo comes to us from the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he served as associate vice president for clinical research and global health initiatives and professor of medicine and health promotion sciences. He is going to be a great addition to the KU Medical Center leadership team. You can read more about him in this issue of KU Medicine magazine.

Earlier this year, Robert Moser took the reins as the dean of the KU School of Medicine‒Salina. Dr. Moser replaced Moser William Cathcart-Rake, who had overseen the Salina campus since its founding in 2011. Dr. Moser is a lifelong Jayhawk, and his career has been devoted to improving the health of Kansans. We think he is a perfect fit for our Salina campus.
