Karen Schell, D.H.Sc., RRT-NPS, RRT-SDS, RPFT, RPSGT, AE-C, CTTS, brings more than 35 years of experience to the program in patient advocacy, education, management, best practices, and public relations. She currently serves as a classroom and clinical instructor in the on-campus bachelor’s degree program in respiratory care.
Schell joined the KU program in the summer of 2015 as a clinical assistant professor. She brings to KU many years of experience from the clinical setting as a staff therapist, clinical educator, supervisor, and manager of a diverse cardiopulmonary service department.
Schell completed her bachelor's degree in respiratory care at the KU Medical Center in 1992. While continuing to work as a therapist and educator, she completed her master’s degree and a doctorate in health sciences from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She currently serves as treasurer/secretary on the executive board of directors for the American Association of Respiratory Care.
