Apply Online
Before starting the online application, it will be helpful to have prepared the following items.
Personal Statement
Students are asked to write a brief (2-3 paragraphs) summary of reasons why they wish to enter the KU respiratory care program. Please include future plans, desired employment, career goals, etc.
Shadowing Documentation
Ask for permission and then make arrangements to spend at least two hours with a current respiratory therapist during their clinical duties. Have the clinical site's department representative sign the shadow documentation form
.
This requirement may be fulfilled after applying to the program, but the form must be received before a decision on admission will be made.
References
Applicants will enter the names and contact information (including email addresses) of three (3) individuals into the online application. The application system will then prompt each person to submit the reference online.
College instructors are preferred, but a reference could be an advisor, supervisor, employer or other person familiar with the applicant's work and character. The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc.
Please make sure each reference is willing to submit the recommendation online, and inform them they will be receiving an email from “KU Medical Center <help@applyweb.com>” prompting this step.
Technical Standards and Accommodations
Please review the technical standards and requirements. Students are asked to confirm they have read and understand this information during the online application process.
Transcripts
Arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university attended sent directly to the program.
If an institution provides an option for electronic delivery of official transcripts, please have them sent to respiratory@kumc.edu. Note: many institutions participate in the National Student Clearinghouse to requrest transcripts. If using this system, do not select "University of Kansas" or "KU Medical Center" as the destination. The email provided in this section should be used instead.
Hardcopy transcripts can be mailed to the following address: KU Respiratory Care, Attn: Admissions, MS 1013 / 3901 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66160.
Current or former KU students do not need to request official transcripts for courses taken from KU.
