Candace Houghton, B.A., RDMS, RVT, RT(R), has served as co-program director and clinical coordinator of KU's diagnostic ultrasound technology certificate program since 1999 and as supervisor of ultrasound in the KU Department of Radiology since 1998. A teaching associate, she restarted the certificate program under the School of Allied Health (now School of Health Professions) in 1999 and enrolled its first class in January 2000. Houghton achieved initial CAAHEP accreditation for both general and vascular concentrations in 2005 for diagnostic medical sonography.
As didactic instructor, Houghton currently teaches courses in introduction to sonography and equipment orientation. As clinical coordinator she is responsible for monitoring the students' general clinical progress during the program.
Houghton obtained her undergraduate degree from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas, in health care management. She received certificates in radiologic technology and diagnostic ultrasound technology from the University of Kansas. Since 1983, she has been employed by the KU Department of Radiology and The University of Kansas Health System.
