The REACH lab at KU Medical Center

The Research in Exercise and Cardiovascular Health (REACH) laboratory is comprised of dedicated students, researchers, and volunteers from the community who work together to answer important questions about chronic disease and disability.

The REACH lab is focused on research that integrates three areas of study: cardiovascular physiology, brain aging, and stroke recovery.

Exercise interventions are used to maximize heart and brain health in people with and without disease. Using non-invasive methods, the lab team studies the heart, lungs, brain, and vascular system.

Fitness and Body Composition Services

  • Cardiac risk assessment (screening including blood pressure).

  • Resting energy expenditure.

  • Wingate anaerobic test.

  • Waist/hip circumference measurement.

  • Submaximal exercise test with or without gas analysis.

  • Maximal exercise test (VO2 max) with gas analysis.

  • Functional tests (Six-minute walk test, Timed up and go) with/without gas analysis.

  • Interpretation of results for training purposes.
