Timothy Gengler, DNAP, CRNA, is a clinical assistant professor for the KU Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education. Prior to joining the KU faculty in January 2019, he served as a nurse anesthestist at The University of Kansas Health System. His extensive nursing experience, beginning in 2003, includes clinical positions at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

For the KU nurse anesthesia doctoral program, Gengler is co-instructor for courses in physiology, pathophysiology, and statistics. He also serves as a reviewer for submissions to the International Student Journal of Nurse Anesthesia.

International educational experiences are an important part of KU's nurse anesthesia program. During the summer term, Gengler travels with students to Antigua, Guatemala to provide anesthesia care during a medical mission trip organized by Medical Missions Foundation.

Academic Background

Gengler earned his doctorate in nurse anesthesia practice from the University of Kansas in 2018. He completed his master's degree in health promotion at Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2006 and also holds bachelor's degrees from Saint Luke's College of Nursing and University of Missouri-Kansas City.

With a focus on evidence-based practice, Gengler is interested in low fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) in anesthesia as well as opioid-free anesthesia care.
