Hartley Family Center

The Hartley Family Center for Childhood Hearing serves families with children of all ages who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as children of parents with deafness.

The center is dedicated to studying the nature, causes, diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders in children, and the provision of state-of-the-science hearing health care services to children with hearing loss and their families.

Administered through the KU Department of Hearing and Speech at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the center was named in honor of W.C. Hartley and his family who have provided generous gifts to help support its programs since 1990. More than 500 families of children with deafness or hearing loss have received assistance from the HFC since that time.

Support the Hartley Family Center
Each year, the center provides hearing assessment and intervention services. Children and their families may also seek assistance with the purchase of advanced-technology hearing aids. The cost of these devices are often not covered by insurance, but the center believes that the ability to pay for top quality hearing aids should not be a factor when determining the proper device for a child.

Each set of hearing aids costs approximately $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the child's need. Please consider a donation to the Hartley Family Center via the KU Endowment website. Thank you for your generous support!

The Hartley Family Center is nestled between buildings behind the The University of Kansas Hospital and offers accessible parking with accommodations expected of the region's top academic health center.
