Curriculum
This degree-advancement program in diagnostic science provides an avenue for radiation technologists with an associate degree to earn a bachelor's degree. Due to the online delivery of coursework and eight-week block format, the curriculum is manageable and accessible even for working professionals. The bachelor's degree will enable undergraduate students to specialize in the track of their choice while incorporating additional courses that will prepare them to advance professionally after completing the bachelor's degree.

Additional Coursework
If the student needs additional credits to reach the overall required 120 credits to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas, they may take additional general diagnostic science (DSXC) courses as electives. A minimum of 45 credit hours in courses numbered 300 or above is required for graduation.
Note: students choosing to complete an imaging concentration will not need to complete all 30 credit hours of the general diagnostic science courses to earn a bachelor's degree.
Bachelor's Degree with Concentration Degree Requirements
Students completing the requirements described above will earn a bachelor's degree in diagnostic science. Within this program, students may also choose to complete a concentration in cardiovascular sonography or a concentration in diagnostic ultrasound and vascular technology.
Students who wish to obtain certification in either the cardiovascular sonography or diagnostic ultrasound and vascular technology concentration will complete specific concentration program courses.
Degree-Completion Opportunitiy for Graduates of KU's Imaging Certificate Programs
This program also provides a bachelor's degree-completion opportunity for students within the three existing certificate programs offered by the Department of Respiratory Care and Diagnostic Science: cardiovascular sonography, diagnostic ultrasound and vascular technology, and nuclear medicine technology. Graduates of these programs at KU also are eligible.
Due to the number of program curriculum credits and prerequisite courses that already exist in each certificate program, students who elect the degree-completion option may need to complete as few as 6-12 credit hours to secure the required 120 credits to earn a bachelor's degree.
Course Requirements for Students in an Imaging Certificate Program at KU
Cardiovascular sonography: general education plus prerequisite courses must equal 50 credits. Students pursuing the cardiovascular sonography concentration will earn 58 credits in the certificate program and will be required to complete a six credit hour capstone course.
Diagnostic ultrasound and vascular technology: general education plus prerequisite courses must equal 47 credits. Students pursuing the diagnostic ultrasound concentration will earn 61 credits in the certificate program and will be required to complete a six credit hour capstone course.
Students needing additional elective credits to reach the required 120 credit hours to earn a bachelor's degree may take available DXSC courses.

Vaccines and Clinical Site Requirements
The University of Kansas Medical Center requires various immunizations for its students. For a detailed list please visit the student health forms webpage or speak with Student Health Services. These immunization requirements help promote health and safety and facilitate clinical placement.
Many, if not all, clinical sites who partner with the University of Kansas Medical Center require proof of these vaccines for students engaged in training or other programmatic experiences at clinical sites. Not being vaccinated may preclude students from participating in activities, potentially impeding their ability to complete all program requirements for degree completion. Applicants with questions should speak with a representative from the academic program to which they intend to apply.
