D’Silva was selected for the Fulbright Specialist Program to work with faculty and students at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Mangalore, India. The project, titled “Exercise Oncology Training the Need of the Hour in India,” focused on the rehabilitation needs of head and neck cancer survivors.

D'Silva and colleagues presented their work on the Vestibular Rehabilitation App at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association. The app was used to improve compliance and accuracy with vestibular exercises.


Vestibular Education

photo of student working on ear modelWe have increased student learning by providing students with the opportunity to build a model of the vestibular system that can be used for educating their patients and explaining how certain vestibular conditions, such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, can be treated.

  • Fulbright Specialist with a focus to address rehabilitation interventions for people with head and neck cancer with an emphasis on the vestibular system.
  • Best Special Interest Research poster award presented by the Vestibular Special Interest Group of the American Physical Therapy Association. Poster title: "The Vestibular Rehabilitation App™ Improves Accuracy and Enjoyment with Exercises in Older Adults with Vestibular Dysfunction."
  • Innovation award presented by the American Physical Therapy Association Technology Special Interest Group for poster presentation.
