Troshynski Brown received the APTA Kansas Award for Excellence in Education at the 2023 APTA Kansas conference in April.
Steve Jernigan completed the American Physical Therapy Association's 2022-2023 Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership in July 2023.
Yvonne Colgrove received the APTA Kansas Award in Academic Excellence in April 2022.
Steve Jernigan was the senior author on the manuscript, "Evaluating the Impact of an Interprofessional Education Program on Workforce: Recruitment, Collaborative Practice, and Culture," published in the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice in January 2022.
Stacia Troshynski-Brown received a seed grant related to Narrative medicine and Yvonne Colgrove received a KUMC Auxiliary grant for development of BRIDGE in Learning Initiative resources.
Scarlett Morris was lead author on the manuscript “Impact of Pro Bono Clinic on Attitudes, Beliefs, and Confidence Towards Cultural Competence in First-year Doctoral Physical Therapy Students” in October 2021.
Mildred Oligbo was a co-author on the manuscript “Estimating Response Variability on the Children’s Health Questionnaire with an Autism Spectrum Disorder Population” published in 2021.
Yvonne Colgrove in collaboration with faculty from St. Mary’s University and Kansas City Kansas Community College published "Clinician Productivity During Student Full Time Clinical Experiences" in 2021.
Yvonne Colgrove is serving on the American Physical Therapy Association's Clinical Instructor Credentialing Program Revision Hybrid Sub-Workgroup 2021-2023.
Steve Jernigan (2018) and Yvonne Colgrove (2021) have both participated in GAMER (Grant Writing & Mentoring in Education Research).
Jason Rucker was selected to serve on the ACAPT Strategic Initiative Panel for Simulation in Physical Therapy Education (2018-2021).
Yvonne Colgrove served on American Council of Academic Physical Therapy's Task Force on Pre-Admission Observation Hours 2021 resulting in two publications, "Impact of Pre-admission Observation Hours on Key Physical Therapist Clinical Education Stakeholders: Qualitative Analysis" and "Impact of Pre-admission Observation Hours on Key Physical Therapist Clinical Education Stakeholders: Quantitative Analysis." She completed a new council task force extending the original work to create alternative observation hour pathways in 2023.
Yvonne Colgrove received the Education Influencer Award from the Physical Therapy Learning Institute, Outstanding Poster/Platform Presentation at ELC October 2020 for Beginning With the End in Mind: A Product Evaluation of Integrated Clinical Education Courses.
Jason Rucker was a founding board member of the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy's Simulation in Physical Therapy Education Consortium (2020).
Steve Jernigan (2019) and Yvonne Colgrove (2020) received the “Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award” from the School of Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Stacia Troshynski-Brown and Yvonne Colgrove served on the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy's Task Force to Explore the Creation of an Excellence Recognition Model.
Mildred Oligbo was invited to be a member of the University of Kansas Center for African American Health Implementation Taskforce.
Yvonne Colgrove and Jason Rucker authored the manuscript "Begin with the End in Mind: Implementing a Series of Integrated Clinical Experience Courses," published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education in 2019.
Mildred Oligbo was a contributing author on the manual "Pediatric Physical Therapy: An Interprofessional Framework for Practice" published in 2018.
The LEARN PT lab team received an Education Innovator Award from the Physical Therapy Learning Institute for its abstract/presentation titled "The LEARN PT Rubric: Student and ICE Preceptor Pilot Data." It was presented at the Education Leadership Conference in Bellevue, Washington, on October 19.
LEARN PT Lab team members presented at the Innovation in Occupational and Physical Therapy Education Summit in Omaha, Nebraska, in June. Colgrove and Troshynski-Brown presented "Beyond the Classroom: Using Learning Theory to Solve Student Problems." Morris and Troshynski-Brown presented "Development of an Overarching, Longitudinal Curricular Rubric." Jernigan and Rucker presented "LEARN PT: Developing a Collaborative Education Research Laboratory."
Mildred Oligbo received the American Physical Therapy Association's Minority Faculty Development Scholarship Award. She was recognized for this honor during the association's annual conference in Chicago in June. In addition, she was selected for the Kathlyn ‘Kitty’ Reed Occupational Therapy Scholarship for her achievements in the therapeutic science doctoral program.
At the 2019 School of Health Professions Student Recognition Ceremony, Steve Jernigan, LEARNPT lab director, received the 2019 Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award. The award recognizes excellence in teaching as well as outstanding contributions by the recipient in his or her profession.
Physical therapy student Callie Lane has been selected as the physical therapy discipline long-term trainee in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program for 2019-2020. She will be working with Mildred Oligbo of the LEARNPT lab and other faculty in this interdisciplinary disability leadership training program at KU Medical Center.
Lab team members presented at the Kansas Physical Therapy Association's 2019 Spring Conference held April 12-13, 2019, in Wichita. Jason Rucker was awarded the Best Platform Presentation Scientific Inquiry Award.
KU was well represented at the American Physical Therapy Association's 2019 Combined Section Meeting in Washington, D.C. Lab team members Stephen Jernigan, Scarlett Morris, Mildred Oligbo, and Jason Rucker presented at the event, January 23-26, 2019.
