Research at LARRS focuses on virtual reality for mobility and physiology of cognitive workload. Our team is interested in driving simulation, virtual reality treadmill training, cognitive-motor interference, task complexity and multimodal cognition.

LARRS makes discoveries that help improve people's lives. Our lab utilizes a driving simulator, a virtual reality treadmill, a balance platform, two eye trackers, an EEG system and several visual and cognitive screening tools.

Explore lab facilities

Driving and Mobility Services Clinic, the team provides services to the community. Staff provides clinical driving evaluations for patients with visual, cognitive, and behavioral conditions who seek medical clearance to drive.

Activities and Updates

With support from a grant from the Parkinson's Foundation, the lab has produced two educational videos. The first video shows practical tips and tricks for older individuals to safely enter and exit a car. The second video shows the portions of a fitness-to-drive assessment at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Free Driving Assessments

The Parkinson’s Foundation has provided funding for driving assessments for individuals unable to pay for themselves. Our recommendations may address vision, thinking, physical ability, driving performance, reaction times, aids and equipment, training, safety with driving and modifying driving behaviors.
