Costs and Financial Aid
If you are interested in applying for KU’s master’s degree in health informatics program, follow the steps below. This is an interprofessional program. Health care experience is preferred but not required.

Application Deadlines
We have two application deadlines each year, depending on your desired start date.
- You should apply by March 31 for a fall semester start.
- Apply by October 31 for a spring semester start.
We may accept applications after spring and fall semester deadlines until all seats in the program are filled.
Steps to Apply
The application process is entirely online. Before you begin, it’s helpful to gather the following information to make your application process as smooth as possible.
- $75 nonrefundable application fee.
- Official transcript(s) of all college-level coursework. Transcripts should be sent directly from your college or university to the University of Kansas. Official transcripts from institutions attended post-baccalaureate are also required.
- Updated resume or curriculum vitae describing your academic and professional background. Include information about your education, work experience, clinical leadership, community/organizational involvement, scholarship/research and honors/awards.
- Personal statement outlining the applicant's reasons for wanting to pursue graduate education in health informatics, career objectives and any other information that would help the admissions committee get to know the applicant.
- Two letters of recommendation, one from a person that can assess the candidate’s academic aptitude and the other professional potential specific to experience and character. Letters are submitted per instructions provided for the online application process. The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc.
After an applicant has been admitted, a program may defer an applicant's admission for one year after which time the applicant must a new application.
Enrollment Deposit
To verify admission acceptance and secure enrollment, admitted graduate students must submit a $400 (non-refundable) enrollment deposit. This deposit is applied to the first semester's tuition and is not an additional fee.
New Student Orientation
All incoming students are required to complete an online new student orientation module and attend an on-campus orientation program. The half-day orientation program is scheduled during the week prior to the start of semester classes. Additional information regarding orientation is sent to students after receipt of the enrollment deposit.
Computer Competency and Standards
Students entering all programs of study at the University of Kansas Medical Center are expected to have basic skills in using a computer. You will be expected to have access to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Visio in order to complete assignments.

Please submit your completed application and pay the application fee. The application fee is paid when you click SUBMIT from the online application. Applicants can pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or by electronic check. U.S. banks only. Application fees are non-refundable. Electronic checks will be held for approximately six business days while the check clears.
