How to Apply
Are you ready to apply to KU’s bachelor's degree in health information management? Review the following information to help you successfully submit your application.
Application Cycle Dates
This program accepts applications from October 1 through June 30. For priority admissions consideration, your completed application should be submitted by February 1. There is no penalty for applications submitted after February 1, however, and late applications are accommodated as space allows in the incoming cohort.
Steps to apply:
- Read the following information and contact your advisor with any questions. If you do not have an advisor, please contact him@kumc.edu.
- Submit a completed application via the platform noted on this page. A completed application entails a) fully submitted online application, including all required data fields, b) supplemental materials (see below), and c) paid application fee.
Before Submitting Your Application
Please review the following information about our program:
- Review the eligibility and admission requirements, including information for international students, and ensure that all prerequisite coursework will be completed by the fall semester start of the program.
- Review the technical standards and computer and software requirements.
Prepare/gather the following supplemental materials that are uploaded to your application:
- Student Interest Statement (required): prepare a brief statement of approximately 300-500 words describing how you learned about the profession of health information management, why you chose this major, and how this degree will support your career goals. The statement should be double-spaced, using a common font (e.g. Arial, Times New Roman), and saved as a Word or PDF document to upload with the application.
- Resume/CV (encouraged/optional): to help our admissions committee learn more about you, we encourage you to upload a current resume or CV.
- Transcripts: arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university you have attended sent directly to KU Medical Center. If the institution provides electronic transcripts, please have them sent to kumcadmissions@kumc.edu. Paper transcripts can be mailed to the following address: Attn: Health Info Mgmt Admissions, Mailstop 4005, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66160. Current or former KU students do not need to request official transcripts for courses taken from KU.
After Submitting Your Application
You will receive an admissions decision approximately two weeks from the time you submit your application.
Upon acceptance into the program, you will be sent an onboarding email consisting of the following:
- Background check instructions: successful background clearance is required before enrolling in courses.
- Laptop requirements for students in this program.
- Required compliance trainings, student health requirements, and other notices.
Newly admitted students will not be provided enrollment instructions until the above-mentioned items are completed.
Once a newly admitted student has completed all onboard training, health requirements, and all holds are cleared from the student’s account, an advisor will provide enrollment instructions to you. Enrollment is based on permission granted by your advisor. Questions about enrollment should be directed to your advisor and not individual faculty.
